For house hunters who are wanting to get on the property ladder, it’s important to research as many locations as possible to find a good bargain. Since the lifting of the lockdown measures, a mini-housing boom has meant house prices are now 3.7 per cent higher than they were in August 2019, reaching an average of £224,123.
But there are still bargains to be found, and letting agent Rentround have compiled a list of the 20 cheapest areas to buy a house in the UK, which includes three postcodes in Merseyside. Or, according to a recent report, you could find a house that’s located close to a Greggs, making it an extra bargain for sausage roll lovers!
The surge in demand for houses came after the reopening of the property market in May and the introduction of a temporary stamp duty holiday for properties under £500,000.
The list of the cheapest postcodes placed TS1 in Middlesborough at the top, with an average asking price of £54,978 for a property, but Merseyside also made the list with three entries in the top twenty, with L20 in Bootle at 10th place. The report said that the average asking price for a house in L20 is £91,793.
Not far behind that was CH41 in Birkenhead, where the average price was £91,885, and the L5 postcode was placed in 19th place, with an average asking price of £97,744.
