Love Your Liverpool Campaign Gets Underway

A new campaign has been launched to help Liverpool locals rediscover the culture, retail, hospitality and visitor experiences that exist right on their doorstep, targeting residents in the Liverpool City Region and the surrounding areas.

The Love Your Liverpool campaign, led by Marketing Liverpool, aims to help the city recover its footing after lockdown and the problems that have been caused by the pandemic, with the numbers of international visitors in serious decline at the moment.

The visitor economy is now worth £3.3 billion to Liverpool each year, supporting over 38,000 jobs. Creative, leisure and cultural businesses make up 38 per cent of the local economy and 49.8 per cent of business rates, Liverpool City Council figures show.

But because many are now not choosing to travel in 2020, the hope is that local residents will start holidaying at home instead. And this new campaign will bring together cultural institutions, solo operators, small independent businesses and multinational brands, all of which need more local support than ever before.

Director of Marketing Liverpool Chris Brown said: “The visitor economy employs a huge number of people in this city, and many of the biggest success stories are local entrepreneurs.

“However, coronavirus has dealt a severe blow to businesses across the sector. With greatly reduced visitors in the next few months, it’s simply crucial that we stick together and support the businesses in the city when they need it most.”

Change is certainly afoot at the moment in this regard, following the government’s announcement that socially distanced live performances are now permitted.

This has led to the launch of a £200,000 pilot project, led by Liverpool City Council and Arts Council England, that will fund performing and visual art in the streets of Liverpool. Who knows what will happen next?
